A secret garden in the shanty towns

 This is what we started with.

 This where we are now;

Then see the full story so far on http://projectperu.org.uk/our-work/a-secret-garden-in-the-shanty-towns.htm

In our ‘secret garden’ we are working with our children and staff to implement this project, which will offer our children a sustainable source of nutrition, and an extra educational resource where they will learn the importance of producing some of their own food, helping to give them a balanced diet and the skills needed to help sustain the project in the future, and to make them able to be more self sufficient.

After a great deal of preparatory work there followed the long awaited planting of the first seeds, a joint effort by all the children, each with their allocation of seeds, following a group education session and careful instruction ...

... and a couple of weeks later!...

and then....!

Books about Peru

Yesterday's books for Project Peru today.

We have a selection of books about Peru in the collection created by Abela Publishing, including two books by Hiram Bingham whose centenary of the rediscovery of Machu Picchu was celebrated in 2011, and some books about Inca myths and stories, among other titles. 33% of the net profit from sales will be donated to Project Peru. Please click on book covers to purchase.

The copyright limit in the USA is 75 years and in the UK, Europe and most other countries in the world it is 90 years. All these books were well out of copyright, and have been republished in this new format by Abela Publishing, who teamed up with Project Peru in 2011 to support the new library project in our children's refuge. As such we encourage you to buy a copy of any of the books listed on their webpage.

If you are planning a visit to Peru ...read all about it first... and do also look at this option http://projectperu.org.uk/news/2012/03/25/inca-trail.htm
