Project Peru is growing and growing

Well, in one sense at least!

We have just started the second phase of our kitchen garden with the planting of our first fruit trees under the professional supervison of our agronomist and our gardener; the children will be involved over the years as the fruit trees grow. So far we have planted palta [avocado], limon [lemon], mandarina [mandarin], durazno [peach], chirimoya [custard apple] and lucuma [egg fruit].

And we continue with our garden in the refuge itself too, including growing this grand crop of yuca for the dining room. Also known as cassava or manioc, yuca, which originated in the Americas, is now a world wide staple crop.

And, yes, we have some bananas!

Not too early for Christmas?

If you would like to raffle a cake for us at Christmas time this year, do let us know. Each year we make a limited number of cakes and can arrange to deliver them to raffle in most parts of the UK. We would welcome contacts with companies, schools, and institutions with a substantial access to raffle ticket buyers who would like to win a super cake for a very good cause. Do contact us on information@projectperu.org.uk to discuss this. The funds we raise this way help us to pay for the costs involved in our children's education.
