The Project Peru logo shows a 'chasqui' runner, a design derived from Mochica pottery. As did the Incas later, the Mochica people used these 'chasquis' as relay runners to deliver messages and goods throughout Peru. The Moche or Mochica culture prevailed in the northern coastal region of Peru from about 100 AD till about 800 AD. These modern-day 'chasquis' all put their best foot forward to support us. Could you do something similar?...or different? ...to raise funds for us?

Please give all of us whatever support you can: gracias!

A fairer slice of the cake

If you are out of range of this cake campaign and wish to donate to our Christmas Appeal 2018 please go to https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/projectperuchristmasappeal2018 : it's not too late to donate!

It's amazing the difference a cake can make to the lives of children trapped in the circle of poverty. One cake raffled, sold, or auctioned for us each Christmas...along with other ingenious ways of using a cake to trigger  donations...means that we will be able to afford to send one child from our refuge to the local State school for a year, paying for uniforms, school materials, books and much more; or that four more of our older students after leaving school can attend further education or vocational courses for a month. And we have 18 of these cakes being raffled around the UK at Christmas 2018, including in Edinburgh, Manchester, Shrewsbury, Birmingham, Hatfield, London [Ealing, Hammersmith and  Walthamstow], Faversham, Littlehampton, Singleton near Chichester, and several in the Guildford area.

Thanks to all those who have made this possible by donating the ingredients, or their baking or cake decoration skills, and /or transport facilities. And of course to those in private homes, at events, churches, pubs and companies who are hosting these campaigns.

These are some of our 2018 cakes!

Project Peru activities for schools in the UK

Looking out for something different for the new school year?

We have held many "Peru Days" in schools...or schools have 'adopted' us for a term or a year, or have linked Peru to a programme of activities in the national curriculum, or have just held a 'one-off' charity day in support of us. Such awareness raising sessions have been held in a variety of schools, and can be tailored to specific needs. Some geographical constraints will apply but, please, for more information, see http://projectperu.org.uk/uk-activities/schools.htm

Ask us about our sessions, particularly at primary level, including a workshop 'El Nuevo Mundo'

Scotland v Peru in Lima on May 29th

UPDATE ON THE RESULT OF THE MATCH: PERU 2-SCOTLAND 0

In the context of this match we were delighted to be supported by the Tartan Army Sunshine Appeal.

https://www.charitychoice.co.uk/project-peru-5466/news/per-v-scotland-may-29th-2018

To read some more of their story with photos see:

http://www.tasunshineappeal.co.uk/past-projects/2018-2/donation-67-peru-may-2018/

The Tartan Army were in Lima for the match. On the morning of the game a group from the Tartan Army visited the refuge, presented the children and staff with Scotland supporters' 'polo' shirts, played a football match against the boys, were entertained to a display of dance and music by the children, enjoyed a 'Pachamanca', a traditional Peruvian feast cooked in the ground, and made us a generous donation.

'Performance put on for us by the kids in the refuge today was another humbling experience...delighted we could donate to Project Peru, a fantastic charity...'

'Morning of the game, visited Project Peru with the Tartan Army Sunshine Appeal [TASA]...thanks so much for allowing us to come along...had an ace time...'

"What a fantastic job being done by everyone at Project Peru. Proud that we can help in a small way. Thanks to everyone for coming along.'

'Fed, watered and entertained by the kids at Project Peru...plus a game of Auld Gits v Young Kids'.

'Peru you have been incredible, Lima is an amazing place'

Background:

The Scotland v Peru match -in the Estadio Nacional, Lima on May 29th- served as the host's send off before they left for the FIFA World Cup finals in Russia in June and July.

Peru have qualified for their first World Cup in 36 years, 40 years after their clash in Argentina in 1978 where Scotland were beaten 3-1.

Scotland have played at eight FIFA World Cups, including five consecutive tournaments from 1974 to 1990. Not this time though.

Hovever, the record between the two teams was delicately poised before this 'friendly' match: in the three fixtures previously played since their first meeting in 1972 each side had won once, with one draw.
