Guildford to Paris Bike Ride

This has until recently been a standard and really successful fundraiser for years; we would need an assurance of a group of cyclists as early as possible, so please help us get a group together for another time, but make enquiries from us first.

Contact information@projectperu.org.uk

Our 200-mile route is covered in four days by cyclists riding from Guildford – Brighton – Newhaven – crossing to Dieppe, then via Luneray – St. Saëns – Buchy -– Les Andelys – Giverny – La Roche Guyon –Meulan – Saint Germaine-en-Laye to Paris (Arc de Triomphe) following our well-established route.

The Paris bike ride is regularly our main annual fundraising venture.  See some 2017 photos here;

Total distance approximately 200 miles spread over four days cycling, five days in all, including return by minibus.

Maximum number of cyclists is 14 plus a backup team; no ‘professional’ cycling skills required, but fitness and determination, a good bike, enthusiasm and the ability to raise sponsorship. You could also join us just for the first day in the UK.

As ever we would need a guarantee of a minimum sponsorship per rider and all participants would need to pay for the costs of the ride separately, so that all sponsorship money raised goes directly to Peru and is not absorbed in the administration costs of this event.

Some comments on previous rides:

“Having previously volunteered at the refuge in Peru, I wanted to continue to support Project Peru, and the bike ride was a fantastic way for me to do this. As well as meeting some new and amazing people I also had a great time talking with others who had been volunteering there! By cycling to Paris I not only managed to raise money to support some amazing children but met some great people and pushed myself to achieve something I never thought I could do!

“Thanks so much for inviting me on the ride. I had such a wonderful time. It was so interesting and enlightening listening to you about the history of Project Peru and the amazing work it is doing. It was an inspirational trip. The food was truly amazing and the route was spectacular too. You have really done a wonderful job organising such a trip.

“Everyone had a fabulous time, so thanks for the brilliant organisation.”

“Just to let you know how much we all enjoyed the trip and meeting all those fabulous new people too.

“I had a fantastic time on the bike ride. Thanks for organising a great event.  It was great to meet you in person and all the other riders and backup team.”

When we signed up for the Guildford to Paris ride we hadn’t ridden a bike for 35 years! But with some training we made it and it was a fantastic experience. Cycling towards the Arc de Triomphe, with the finishing post in sight, gave us a great sense of achievement. The work put into planning the event was incredible and there was great support from the back up team throughout the four days which made the cycling a pleasure. Raising money for an excellent cause plus a high degree of enjoyment – we would certainly recommend it!

“I just wanted to say a big thank you for all your help and support on the way to Paris. I was completely overwhelmed by the planning, organisation, enthusiasm, kindness and of course the food [… ] It would not have been such a pleasure or as smooth without you all [… ] no looking at maps, getting lost or hungry. I really enjoyed the whole experience.

“I loved every minute of it and have bored everyone to death about it since I came back.”

“Very glad all went well and that you enjoyed your stay, I did too!

“What a fantastic cycle we had, hey, b****y brilliant.’ Thank you for putting on such an ace event, you two and the back up are out of this world. Big love to all at the refuge, what amazing people. I can’t speak more highly of them.

“It was lovely to meet and may I extend my thanks to you for all you hard work, together with the back up team. I enjoyed the whole thing immensely and felt it was extraordinarily worthwhile. May I congratulate you on all the effort you are making. It is a fantastic project.

“Loved our trip, magic except for the rain.”

“Thank you [ … ] so much for all your help and encouragement over the whole process and for your stunning organization which made it so easy to just get up and proceed, as it were, albeit it in the lowest possible gear and rather slowly [ … ]. It was all a very enjoyable and worthwhile experience for me, and made it such a pleasure to raise money for the great work you do in Peru.

“I’d just like to say a massive thank you for allowing me to take part in the ride, I can honestly say that I loved every moment of it and feel so satisfied about raising money for such a great cause, I’d really like to get more involved with the charity as talking to everyone who has been part of it has really opened my eyes about it.

“Hope you are fully recovered from the mammoth effort you guys put into organising such a great charity event. I just wanted to thank you … for doing such a good job and making the experience all the more enjoyable. We had such a good time on the bike ride and it was really great meeting lots of different people, who were all from quite different backgrounds but united for a common cause!

“Having spent time at the Project Peru refuge, I knew that the bike ride to Paris would be fun, rewarding and well organised. It exceeded my expectations. We were not only excellently fed by our back up team, but well looked after and supported throughout – just like spending time at the Project Peru refuge! The ride itself is challenging without being competitive. The route is scenic and we stopped off at plenty of historical and beautiful spots.  Having never cycled such a distance before, I was a little worried that I might struggle.  But I was assured that I would be just fine and everybody was right. We rode as a collective but if you felt like slowing down or speeding off then that is not a problem. Seeing the Eiffel Tower when you come into Paris is a great moment. When riding along the Champs Elysées to the Arc de Triomphe as a team we all felt an amazing sense of achievement. An achievement that will stay with me forever.”
