… meanwhile outside our walls Peru has recently installed a ninth president in 10 years, dire warnings are circulating about El Niño, the Pacific Ocean current, and its potential for world-wide influence on climate, and Peru has had fairly significant earthquakes recently; though these are in line with recent large earthquakes in Venezuela and Colombia they are not necessarily connected.
Nevertheless, among our recent activities photographed below, we include
Welcomes for new residents
The group of optometrists from USA and Canada carrying out clinics at the refuge and in Colegio EL Dorado
Visits from former volunteers and benefactors from the UK
Educational and recreational outings to Cajamarca, Puente Piedra and Ancon
Sports days at the refuge which in Peru is called a ‘Gincana’ [this word is based on the Anglo-Indian word ‘Gymkhana’]
Celebrations for the national holiday Fiestas Patrias on 28th of July
Earthquake drills at the refuge
New dining room furniture thanks to a generous donation
