‘Arpilleras’ made in Villa el Salvador

These arpilleras are a popular art form that has developed in the shanty towns of Latin America, using scraps of material, wool or other available material, often depicting scenes of traditional life, landscapes, markets, village life, nature scenes, and other subjects, depicted in collages that can combine patchwork, appliqué, and embroidery.

Project Peru supports a number of organisations and women’s groups who make this sort of craft items, working in their homes. We buy their products direct from them at a fair price and sell at our craft stalls in the UK.
